3 Ways To Improve Office Morale

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate office morale at your place of business?

In the event things could be better, do you not think now would be the time to work on it?

By having better office morale, you put your small business in a better position to succeed.

So, how best to improve how your office is run?

What Changes Might You Need to Make?

In reviewing your office morale, here are some areas to hone in on:

  1. Make work fun – Sure, people go to work each day to do a job and earn a living. That said having some fun while doing so is important. If too many of your employees feel as if working for you is a real drag, can you expect them to want to stay there for long? Create an atmosphere that is both productive and fun at the same time. From a fun office event to casual wear in the workplace and more, make it so employees feel relaxed. You might also offer things like working from home at times to childcare in the office. Both can be quite attractive to employees, especially those with little ones at home. As more companies seem to be evolving, the 9 to 5 office jobs in cubicles are changing. More businesses see the positives that can come from employees working from home. One aspect is not to have to worry about what to do with young ones while on the job in an office setting. If things are too rigid or it feels like an assembly line there, you could find many unhappy workers in your midst.
  2. Rewarding those working hard – It is also key to reward those working for you when necessary. For instance, do you have a sales team in place? Many companies with such teams offer commissions along with a standard salary. So, do you have commissions available to your sales team? If the answer is yes, having a commission tracker in place can be a big help. That tracker makes it much easier to record the proper commissions for each member. The last thing you want or need is unhappy sales team folks. This would be having them wondering why they did not get the commissions they earned. By making sure you reward your sales team the right way, it can help in improving company sales now and down the road.
  3. Keeping folks in the loop – Last, while you can’t tell workers everything, at least keep them in the loop on key matters. As an example, have you given any thoughts to selling your business sooner than later? If so, it would behoove you to not leave employees in the complete dark. Keep in mind your workers have a right to have a say in their professional futures. As such, don’t let them know at the last minute about any prospective sales.

In improving the morale around your office, where might you need to begin some upgrades?
