If your diet consists of lots of fiber, it may reduce your risk of dying from various diseases. A new study has found that people who maintain high-fiber diets may reduce their risk of death and lengthen the numbers of years that they live. Some of the diseases where risk of death decreases by eating a high-fiber diet includes respiratiory disease, heart disease, infections, diabetes and certain cancers. The study also states that these benefits are seen in diets of whole grain plant foods and not necessarily with dietary fiber from fruits and vegetables. The benefits were related to both men and women who had lots of whole grains in the dietary intake.
